RAGBRAI One-too-many 19 July 2009

Silver City just got dumped on by a massive number of RAGBRAI bikers. No one was told they were coming. There were no preparations made, or I would have left town yesterday.  In fact, Silver City was not on their route.  The route passed north of here 2 1/2 miles.  I was stuck here in the house and found myself running back and forth from my sidewalk on the south to my back garden, protecting it from the onslaught of inconsiderate jerks, and believe me, there were MANY.  Out of desperation, I wrote to the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil, since I couldn’t find a link to write to the Des Moines Register:

“Many thanks to the way-too-many RAGBRAI bikers who descended on an unprepared Silver City (NOT on the route and NOT a waystation) – in a loud, obnoxious, rude, already- drunk and insensitive way – and especially to the man who chose my back garden to use as his personal toilet. I was sitting on my deck at the time.

There’s a reason I don’t like crowds of idiots. This is one of them, and if this particular group of rabble are any indication of the rest of the bikers on this year’s RAGBRAI, I am embarrassed for the Des Moines Register for sponsoring it.”

They were here well before noon. They were here way too long when they’d been here 30 seconds. They interrupted the local church service with their swearing and whistling and catcalls, they made people wait while THEY were on the city streets, which were not part of the route, and they’ve been walking around like the entire town was a public thoroughfare/public bathroom.

After I wrote the letter to the Nonpareil, more than 20 others came around the back to urinate, a group of under-aged girls tried passing around a bottle of Vodka standing on my sidewalk “out of line of vision” of the other bikers, and I literally caught two different people defacating near my car.

I finally called the Sheriff’s office.  Not that it did any good, but they were fully aware of the fact that the bikers were here uninvited.

I have been pretty upset.  The Des Moines Register owes me personally a huge apology for having to clean up bowel movements from adult humans from my back yard, not to mention the urine spots in my grass which could kill it.

And all this because a group of jerks decided to take an “alternate” route, and now the town has to clean up the mess.

I hope they’re happy.  The only two groups I could identify were The Foley Brothers and the green SHAGBRAI bus.  If I could verify that the jerks I caught were a part of either group, I’d sue them for public indecency.

I am a biker chick – Harley chick.  The next person that says a word to me about the bad behaviour of motorcyclists, they will get an earful from me.
